Who Gets Your Gifts This Year?
The period of waiting and anticipation that constitute the retreat-like atmosphere of the season places us in a spirit of hope. And it’s a time for list making. Christmas card lists. Gift lists. New Year resolution lists. And all this presupposes the gratitude of the harvest season that is now long past. We’ve taken stock of the ways we’ve been gifted and the ways we’ve been blessed. Now we turn ourselves over to the giving of gifts and look forward into the new year, a year dedicated to sharing our love with the world.
Who gets your compassion this year? Who gets your patience? How about your trust? Who will you share your joy with and who will receive your dreams? When you’re ready to put the best interpretation on someone else’s gift-giving, who will be with you?
We pray that this Christmas will be a true grace for you and will stand at the head of the year as a sign and symbol of our generous spirit coming into fullness, as Christ himself gives each of us a share in the incredible mystery of self-gift, that is our Salvation.
