The Field and the Cave, Part V
Carlos Simmons is missioned to a destitute rural parish. He falls in love with the countryside and the Chinese people and lays plans to build a new mission to provide for their needs. He is side-tracked by tertianship and then sent to an abandoned mission church in Shuyang. Simmons labors to build up the community but the Japanese war begins and any semblance of law and order disappears.
