The Field and the Cave, Part I

The 1920’ are a decade of global turmoil, even as the US retreats into isolationism.  The Jesuits of the west coast are busy building institutions from Spokane to San Francisco.  Europe is undergoing great change as the Bolsheviks seize power in Russia and Mussolini is made prime minister of Italy.  The Chinese continue to suffer from the loss of their sovereignty and many live in poverty.

The California provincial receives word that he is to send some men to China in a new international effort directed from Rome.
