Fr. Jack Bentz, SJ
Jack currently serves the Church as the Provinicial Assistant for Vocations in the Oregon Province. Additionally, he assists the provincial with our twinning relationship with the Jesuits of Colombia as the Assistant for International Ministries. He is also the superior of the Jesuits living and working in the Capitol Hill district of Seattle, Washington.
Jack grew up in Harney County, Oregon and has degrees in theater and English literature from Gonzaga University. He served in campus ministry at Seattle University and is the founding artistic director of Deus X Machina community-based theater.

Mr. Glen Butterworth, SJ
Glen is currently a scholastic of the Oregon Province, in training for the Jesuit priesthood. He has been missioned to Heythrop College in London for theology studies and hopes to be ordained within a few years.
Glen is the son of American diplomats, was born in Bonn, Germany and has degrees in international studies and philosophy. He has lived in many countries – his favorites being Greece and China. He worked in student development at Seattle University and was missioned to vocation work for the third year of his regency.
Fr. Joseph Carver, SJ
Joseph is a priest of the Oregon Province and is missioned to Seattle Preparatory School.
Joseph grew up on a farm in upstate New York and before entering the Jesuits he directed a non-profit housing program in Seattle. He has advocated for the homeless and enjoyed directing retreats all over the country. Joseph also enjoys captaining sailboats and providing spiritual direction. He recently completed an MDiv and STL in Spirituality and Ecology at the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, and was ordained to the priesthood in spring of 2009.
Mr. Matthew Kunkel, SJ
Matthew is a scholastic of the Oregon Province and is missioned to the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University. He expects to be ordained to the priesthood in 2012.
Matthew joined the Society in 2002 after graduating from Gonzaga University with a degree in Latin American Studies. A native of western Washington, he is grateful to the Society for the love and support he received while teaching at St. Andrew Nativity School in Portland. As a regent, he taught seventh and eighth grade religion classes, proctored study hall, and coordinated volunteers.
Mr. Phillip Sutherland, SJ
Philip is an Oregon Province scholastic and is missioned to the Colombiere Community in Portland. Working at St. Andrew Nativity School, he teaches seventh and eighth grade religion classes and proctors study hall. He expects to be ordained a priest in 2015.
Philip joined the Society in 2004 after graduating from Gonzaga University with a degree in Chemistry and Religious Studies. After his two year novitiate he was missioned to First Studies at Loyola Chicago University, where he earned an MA in Philosophy. His thesis was on Aristotle’s use of justice in the Nicomachean Ethics.
Sean is a novice of the Oregon Province and assigned to the Novitiate of St. Francis Xavier in Portland. Now in his second year leading up to vows, he has been sent on various experiments around the country.
Sean entered the Society of Jesus after his second year at Seattle University, where he studied English and worked as the sports editor for the student newspaper, The Spectator. A fan of soccer and rugby, he is also a gifted musician and enjoys playing the guitar.
